Slightly dusty in the nose. Is it TCA or one of those infamous Ducru vintages where many bottles suffered this problem? The problem is luckily not too dominant, and only veils a classic Medoc nose. Fairly strict tannins, slightly difficult to taste right now. The dustiness blows away in the glass after a while.

A lot more open than the previous one, much younger and with nice, ripe, fine Cabernet Sauvignon fruit. Very fine wood. Great finesse and enough power. Very nice wine.

Very similar aroma's to the previous wine, but not as nice and seducing, overall harder. A touch of green celery. In the mouth also a lot harder, but clearly a chip off the same block as the previous wine.

Rather closed wine but with clearly good stuffing. Slight touch of burning alcohol in the nose. Firm acidity, with strong tannins that are a little rough. Clearly similar to Ducru #1 (1988).

Completely different wine. A 'warm' nose, slightly cooked. Is this from a warm year? Still rather closed, clearly younger than the previous wines. Slight lactic on the nose, vanilla. Rather fine, but fairly strong. Very nice, but still very young. Needs some more cellaring, but will turn out very nice.

Very deep nose. Again not an easy wine to taste (this flight actually reminds me a lot of a vertical of Lafite - also a very difficult wine to judge). Slightly rough in the mouth, not as 'clean' as I would wish. Requires extended cellaring.

Very dark nose, but rather soft, very ripe. Already some secondary evolved fruit. Nice evolution. The taste is fairly smooth, very good concentration. Great structure and intensity, fairly long. Clearly the wine of the flight! Also fairly accessible compared to some others - well, it does help to show off from time to time.

Bottle mid-shoulder. I've never ever seen a wine with a colour identical to Coke, but this is it. Of course there is clear oxydation, which somewhat masks the other aroma's of secondary fruit, quince (nice!); a complex nose overall. The taste is rather soft, with good balance; some acidity, but not too disturbing. Although clearly over the hill, this wine is a lot nicer than you would think, judging by the colour. The bottle wasn't perfect, so possibly a well-preserved 1967 La Chapelle may hold promise.

Nicely evolved colour. Nicely evolved nose as well, with still some beautiful secondary fruit left. The taste starts off pretty well, but then drops off towards the end with strong acidity and a slight alcohol burn. Overall not bad for that age, but not great either. The nose promised more, but the taste structure was somewhat lacking. Bottle bought by Ive Marx at auction.

The initial aroma's are really rough, with a lot of alcohol in the nose. All this blows away after 10 minutes, and the nose becomes very fine and delicate, with nice sous-bois and evolved fruit. Great complexity. The taste had great structure and perfect integration - not a rough edge in sight. Some acidity in the aftertaste, but not too much. This was of course served blind, and I was fully convinced it was a mature Burgundy... Maybe I should have paid more attention to the notes of alcohol. But it is still amazing how old CDP can resemble Burgundy. Beautiful wine.
